Reasons for the Project - 1

The posts needed to be replaced because of the termite infestations at the base of the 6" x 6" patio/deck posts. These posts were approximately 37 years

old as the home was built in 1971. The patio/deck posts were connected to the foundation with less structurally sound "architectural style" post to footing

brackets. Those brackets are hidden from view from the exterior. They are internal in the posts and place the posts directly on the concrete. The problem

with having the wood posts directly on the concrete is that the wood posts are more exposed to water. Termites love wet wood for their burrows. The

photographs below illustrate the termite infestation problems in the wood posts.
